Review! Kissed by a Cowboy by Debra Clopton

Kissed By a Cowboy is the third book featuring the Monahan brothers. I have really enjoyed this series and in a way, I'm sad that the last brother has gotten his HEA. Jarrod is the eldest of the three brothers. He is also the serious one. When he realizes he has a second chance at love with Cassidy, he decides to go for it. Unfortunately, Cassidy has other plans. Coming of a horrible divorce, she doesn't want to ever get married again.

While not my favorite of the three books, I did enjoy Jarrod and Cassidy together. I loved how Jarrod never gave up in trying to win back Cassidy's heart. I was really rooting for them the whole way. For me, it just took Cassidy a little too long to get with the program. In addition to their story, we are treated to the conclusion to a story arc over the series between Pebble and Rand. Their love story was so super sweet and I was so happy with that couple's ending. Along with appearances from previous characters, there is a bit of adventure added into the story.

I'm not sure what is next for this author, but I hope she will visit with Wishing Springs Texas again in the future!

TBR Death Readathon TBR!

so my readathon begins tomorrow. And I have to have a TBR to murder. So here's the six books I hope to read for the readathon!

THE LOST AND FOUND by Katrina Leno

honestly i'm reading this because Cait loved it.

Frannie and Louis met in an online support group when they were both younger. They have never met face-to-face. They don’t even know each other’s real names. All they know is that they both have a mysterious tendency to lose things. Well, not lose them, exactly. Things just seem to…disappear.

They each receive news in the mail that sets them off on a road trip to Austin, Texas, looking for answers—and each other. Along the way, each one begins to find, as if by magic, important things the other has lost. And by the time they finally meet in person, they realize that the things you lose might be things you weren’t meant to have at all, and that you never know what you might find if you just take a chance.

HOW IT FEELS TO FLY  by Kathryn Holmes

The movement is all that matters.
For as long as Samantha can remember, she’s wanted to be a professional ballerina. She’s lived for perfect pirouettes, sky-high extensions, and soaring leaps across the stage. Then her body betrayed her.
The change was gradual. Stealthy.
Failed diets. Disapproving looks. Whispers behind her back. The result: crippling anxiety about her appearance, which threatens to crush her dancing dreams entirely. On her dance teacher’s recommendation, Sam is sent to a summer treatment camp for teen artists and athletes who are struggling with mental and emotional obstacles. If she can make progress, she’ll be allowed to attend a crucial ballet intensive. But when asked to open up about her deepest insecurities, secret behaviors, and paralyzing fears to complete strangers, Sam can’t cope.

RED VELVET CRUSH by Christina Meredith

Rock music, a broken family, challenging sisters, and the crush of first love—Red Velvet Crush has everything you need in a summer read. For fans of Nick & Norah’s Infinite PlaylistEleanor & Park, and This Song Will Save Your Life.

WE WERE NEVER HERE by Jennifer Gilmore

Did you know your entire life can change in an instant?

For sixteen-year-old Lizzie Stoller that moment is when she collapses, out of the blue. The next thing she knows she’s in a hospital with an illness she’s never heard of.

But that isn’t the only life-changing moment for Lizzie. The other is when Connor and his dog, Verlaine, walk into her hospital room.

ROSE AND THORN by Sarah Prineas

After the spell protecting her is destroyed, Rose seeks safety in the world outside the valley she had called home. She’s been kept hidden all her life to delay the three curses she was born with—curses that will put her into her own fairy tale and a century-long slumber. Accompanied by the handsome and mysterious Watcher, Griff, and his witty and warmhearted partner, Quirk, Rose tries to escape from the ties that bind her to her story. But will the path they take lead them to freedom, or will it bring them straight into the fairy tale they are trying to avoid?

Piper Baird has always dreamed of becoming a journalist. So when she scores a scholarship to exclusive Chiswick Academy in Washington, DC, she knows it’s her big opportunity. Chiswick offers the country’s most competitive prize for teen journalists—the Bennington scholarship—and winning will ensure her acceptance to one of the best schools in the country.

Piper isn’t at Chiswick for two days before she witnesses the intense competition in the journalism program—and the extreme privilege of the young and wealthy elite who attend her school. And Piper knows access to these untouchable students just might give her the edge she’ll need to blow the lid off life at the school in a scathing and unforgettable exposé worthy of the Bennington.

The Readathon craziness begins tommorrow! What's on YOUR TBR?

!Review! The Cautious Maiden by Dawn Crandall

Violet Hawthorne is beyond mortified when her brother Ezra turns their deceased parents' New England country inn into a brothel to accommodate the nearby lumberjacks; but when Violet's own reputation is compromised, the inn becomes the least of her worries. In an effort to salvage her good name, Violet is forced into an engagement with a taciturn acquaintance; Vance Everstone. As she prepares for a society wedding, Violet learns that her brother had staked her hand in marriage in a heated poker game with the unsavory Rowen Steele, and Ezra had lost. Now Rowen is determined to cash in on his IOU. With danger stalking her and a new fiance who hides both his emotion and his past, Violet must decide who to trust and who to leave behind.

I was determined not to let the gorgeous cover or love for this author win me over. I wanted the Cautious Maiden to woo me with it's plot and characters AND BOY DID IT.
Violet won me right away. DUH. Vance took a few chapters, because I'd seen him in this series before and quite frankly, I hadn't liked him.
I love how all of Dawn's characters were perfect in their own ways. And by perfect I mean flawed and so, so real!
I also loved how this was a sweet romance, but there was also a villain! This book refuses to be categorized as merely romance because the villain invites an aspect of suspense.
DAWN CRANDALL KNOWS HER TIME. I mean, seriously. I was so engrossed in this that I could have been IN 19TH CENTURY AMERICA.
Like in every other book by Dawn, I adored the family in this. There is always that family aspect to her books. In this one that was Vance's family, the Everstones. They were perfect and also I loved the cameos and mentions to the other characters from the other books.
This book was delectable and is now battling the Bound Heart to be my favorite of the series. It has a swoon-worthy romance, a heart-pounding plot, and characters I would die for.

Intimacy – There was a lot of kissing, and Violet's brother runs a brothel. There's mentions to prostitution, sex, and illegitimate children.

Drugs/Drinking – None.

Violence – Rowen threatens Violet with a gun and kills someone.

Cussing – None.

I'm hosting a Readathon????

Okay, so in case you follow me on Instagram, you've probably seen this post;

The point of this readathon is to read books that have been sitting on your TBR for awhile. To just read until your eyeballs fall out! (actually no because then you wouldn't read my blog)
Anyway, you can follow along on INSTAGRAM but if you don't have Instagram I will be posting a TBR for the readathon and a wrapup at the beginning and end and you can participate by posting a TBR, plus a wrapup on YOUR blog. Anyone can join. If you're joining on Instagram or Twitter, please share this photo with the hastag #TBRdeathreadathon and tag me.

I'm Doing Camp NaNoWriMo!

so I decided last night that I would do Camp NaNoWriMo.
My summer project wasn't getting done so I'm going to force myself to write the first 20k for Camp NaNoWriMo.
In case you missed my flailing in the monthly Writing Updates, my summer project is a fantasy novel inspired by Ancient Rome.
Anywayyy I thought I'd share my spiffy new synopsis that I whipped up at 3am last night. Also my cool cover. :)

In Castorus, you don't want to be born a empree. Athena was cursed to be the eldest emporee. She spends her nights fighting off her jealous sisters, and her days preparing to become the Empress. In her soul she misses the kinship of her sisters and longs for someone—anyone—to be her friend.
Far away, on the same day of Athena's birth, a coupe prays for another daughter and receives a son. He is, as they feared, paralyzed in his arm and blessed with telekinesis. Over the years they learn to hide it, chalking his paralysis up to an accident when he was younger. If someone becomes too suspicious, they move.
But they can't hide forever. Titus is taken from them and forced to perform in the brutal and bloody Arena as a gladiator against other cursed boys.
They were never meant to meet—the gladiator and the empree. But a chance encounter leads to a forbidden friendship. The stake heighten as Athena nears her eighteenth birthday and her sisters search for a weakness—anything to keep her from the throne. Athena and Titus begin to realize that the friendship that saved them might also destroy them.
Set in a rich fantasy world steeped in the mythology and infrastructure of ancient Rome, this unlikely friendship burns bright in a time when no one is to be trusted.

I can't waiiiiit!!

Explanations of Absence

OKAY SO THIS GRAPHIC HAS A TYPO *becomes a hermit*

HELLO it has been ridiculously long since I posted. You guys deserve to know why.
Life has been freakishly crazy recently. A few weeks ago I visited a school in the bush with some friends and we had a ton of fun ministering to those children. I've been having some trouble spiritually so I was stopped up creatively.
ALSO the biggest reason I haven't blogged was that my computer broke(basically my tiny little siblings threw it) and it was broken up until yesterday. I'm horrible at writing on my Kindle or phone so I just abstained from blogging while my computer was broken.
So here's the scoop about the blog. I don't have a ton of computer or internet time every day, especially when it comes to the monthly posts. So I will still have a post linking to every post posted that month, plus my TBR and bookhaul and Life Updates.
Mainly what's changing here is the wrap-up. I read a lot every month, and tracking down each book, my rating, and what I thought is sooo time consuming. So I'm going to stick a poll on the top of the blog for y'all to vote. I can either post a post once a month with my favorites of the month and recommend them OR I can stop posting that.
Also I don't get a lot of writing done so this summer I'll continue with a monthly Writing Update but then they might taper off to bi-monthly? I'm just trying to figure out a system that's easy to maintain but also keeps a lot of fun and interesting content posted a few times a week.
I have some fun ideas for posts but I need opinions. Did you like the BookTube Tags series? Or the Ryebrynn Recommends post?
PLEASE TELL ME if you like a post. It helps me hone my creative content down to stuff y'all will enjoy.

ALSO I'M GUEST POSTING on sometime this week with advice on writing reviewssss! It shall be fun and is kind of the unofficial sequel to Becoming a Book Blogger

I promise I'm going to try and blog more. BUT I NEED YOU TO TELL ME WHAT YOU'D LIKE TO SEE. If there's something you want to see that I haven't done? COMMENT IT BELOW. If I've done something before that you liked? COMMENT IT BELOW.

AND THANK YOU. y'all are literally the best.
